Glow-in-the-dark 24 hours custom wristbands in memory of Clevedon soldier

A glow-in-the-dark 24 hours custom wristbands has been fashioned as part of a movement for superior street lighting after a soldier died in a road accident in a town in north Somerset.

Edward Heal, 19, was killed when he was hit by a car in Kenn Road, Clevedon in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Lights are switched off from midnight to 05:00 in some areas to save money.

Mr Heal's family believe it was a factor in his death and are selling the charity bands to raise awareness.

Nicky Lee, a friend of the family, said: "The wristbands are not only in memory of Edward but also to drive home the message at how important it is for the street lights to go back on.
'Fight for lights'

"They carry the message 'be safe, be seen' which is extremely important for young people who are out and about during the dark evenings.

"We have sold lots of the wristbands and we will continue to fight for the lights to go back on."

The 19-year-old soldier was in the King's Royal Hussars, based at the Tidworth Camp in Wiltshire, and was preparing for a tour of duty in Afghanistan in March.

Proceeds from the sale of the wristbands will be shared between the charity Help for Heroes and Mr Heal's regiment.
