The biggest names in music entertainment accepted a little more than
their coveted golden phonographs at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards on
Monday, Guam time.
Swag bags are full of everything from guitars
to shoes, but winners and presenters also received a small box
containing eight wristbands from a company owned by a pair of former
Guam residents.
SOLEBANDZ is a sneaker-inspired wristband line from Christopher Hughes and Barbara J. Cushing, who now live in Hawaii.
The pair put together a special edition set created for the biggest night in music.
Celebrity
presenters and performers, including Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and
Macklemore, received the official Grammy Awards wristbands approved by
The Recording Academy, Cushing says.
The company has some 50 designs under its belt, inspired by Jordans, LeBrons, Kobes and KDs, past and present, Cushing says.
Cushing,
a 2002 St. John's School graduate, has a doctoral degree in
architecture. Hughes, a 2002 John F. Kennedy High School graduate,
studied business at the University of Guam. The two combined their
skills to create the SOLEBANDZ Line.
Intricate designs'
- "Christopher is an avid sneaker collector and has been collecting sneakers for over 15 years," Cushing says.
- "He has a great appreciation for the details on sneakers and wanted to use it as inspiration for wristbands. Our wristbands have very intricate designs and come in very detailed packaging."
- Pulling from popular kicks, the colors and designs vary to compliment the footwear.
- Each wristband also features the SOLEBANDZ name or shortened logo.
- Since its launch a year ago, the company, based out of Honolulu, has been swamped with orders for the wristbands, which sell for about $6.
- Some of the bands also are sold by the set for up to $30, depending on the design. If you want to be a part of history, pick up the SOLE Box -- the same set included in the Grammy swag bag -- for $50.
- "We have a lot more designs dropping over the next few month," Cushing says. "We are super excited and honored to be part of the GRAMMY Awards. We cannot wait to see what 2014 brings for SOLEBANDZ."
