River Food Truck Festival at Artesani Herter Park in Allston

The second-annual Charles River Food Truck festival is scheduled to be held at Artesani Herter Park in Allston on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The festival will feature more than 20 food trucks from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the Food Truck Festivals of New England, which hosts the event.

The food will include gourmet grilled cheese, Vietnamese sandwiches, sirloin sliders, pesto pizza and lobster rolls, along with dessert trucks serving homemade ice cream sandwiches, whoopee pies, and cupcakes, organizers said.

Festival entry wristbands entitle attendees to get lower prices on all food at every truck as well as a special “small bite” at each truck.

Wristbands are available for purchase online www.foodtruckfestivalsofne.com for $7. They will be $10 on the day of the festival.

Trucks will also offer non-wristband, or walk-up, prices at $2 to $3 more per item.

A dollar from each wristband purchase will benefit the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts.

Wristbands for Swampmaster Alligator Shows

The Lancaster County Super Fair gets underway Thursday at the Lancaster Event Center. The fair runs through Aug. 10.

 Carnival wristbands for unlimited rides are available for $20 in advance and $25 at the fair.
Buy your wristbands at the Lancaster Event Center Office, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Wristbands are good for a single session at the fair. Sessions run from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 11 p.m.

Free Super Fair gate admission tickets are available at all Russ’s Market, Super Saver and Casey’s General Store locations in Lincoln. Admission at the gate is $2 per person. Parking is $3 per vehicle.
This year’s attractions include the Swampmaster Gator Show, Scott’s Crazy Comedy Magic Show, Daryl's Racing Pigs, A to Z Exotic Animal Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, Heart of America Shows Midway Carnival and the Procrastinators, a group of drummers who turn five-gallon water bottles, barstools and pots and pans into musical instruments while jumping, sliding, twisting and stomping their way through fast and furious rhythmic fun.

Also coming up:

 * Marcus Theatre’s Kid’s Dream summer film series continues with “The Croods,” at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at SouthPointe and Grand cinemas. Tickets are $2.50 each.
* Cooper YMCA will host a Family Luau at the outdoor pool from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Activities include limbo contest, pineapple bowling, musical beach towels, hula hoop contests, prizes giveaways, raft races and free snow cones. Families can enjoy dinner for $3 per person. Cost is $20 per family ($10 for members) or $8 per person ($4 per person for members). All children under  9 must be accompanied by an adult at least 16 years old.
Space is limited. Advance registration is required. Sign up by visiting the front desk at any Lincoln YMCA. The luau is a fundraiser for the Y Strong Kids Campaign, which provides programs for low-income families at reduced rates.
* Wild Wednesdays continue through August at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, 1222 S. 27th St. Wild Wednesdays run from 5 to 8 p.m. with special activities and animal demonstrations. Regular admission applies.

 Friday

Splash Park Entry Capacity Declared

Due to the 100-person capacity of the Biggs Park Splash Park, the following policy will be implemented when that capacity is reached:

  • Lifeguards will keep a head count of splash park patrons. One parent or adult per six children must accompany children at all times.
  • Upon entry to the splash park, patrons will be issued wrist bands. No wristbands will be issued in advance; patrons must be present and in line to receive a wrist band.
  • When the 100-person capacity is reached, lifeguards will not allow additional patrons to enter the splash park until either patrons leave (with a one-for-one exchange) or a new session begins (at times specified below.)

  • When there are more than 10 patrons awaiting entry, two-hour sessions will be implemented. The beginning times for sessions are noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The changeover will take place at the appropriate break enforced by lifeguards.
  • Patrons who gain entry 30 minutes or less prior to the new session due to someone leaving, will be allowed to re-enter the next session without waiting in line. They will be issued the correct wristband for the following session when they enter the splash park.
  • Patrons who wish to enter the splash park more than 30 minutes prior to a new session enter with the understanding they will be asked to leave when the session ends.
  • Patrons who have been asked to vacate at the end of a session may get back in line for reentry, following the above guidelines, and will receive a new wristband upon entry.
  • The intent of this policy is to set guidelines for patrons and staff when Biggs Park Splash Park capacity is met. There will be some instances where basic logic will be a better guideline to get patrons into the splash park efficiently, and the above policy may be adjusted at the lifeguard’s discretion. Guests of pavilion renters are allowed use of the splash park. All users of the splash park will adhere to posted safety rules and guidelines, and follow lifeguards’ instructions.

One Day Unlimited Ride Carnival Wristbands On Sale

The discounted carnival ride wristbands for the Lompoc Valley Flower Festival are now on sale.


One-day unlimited ride wristbands are $20 each before the festival and $30 at the carnival. Ride coupons will also be available for purchase at the carnival with 80 coupons costing $70, 25 coupons for $23 and a single coupon for $1.

The 61st annual Lompoc Valley Flower Festival is June 26 through 30 at Ryon Park.

The Butler Amusements carnival will open at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, noon Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.

Pre-sale carnival wristband tickets can be purchased at local grocery stores and banks, the Lompoc Parks and Recreation Department, and Flower Festival office.
