New Life-Saving Wristband Scheme

A VITAL care service has launched a wristband system to safeguard vulnerable users.

Tendring Careline has produced thousands of rubber wristbands which all bear the service’s phone number and a unique reference code.

The information of each wearer, including their medical history and vital details, is stored on a database.

If someone wearing a wristband gets into difficulties while outside, anyone finding them can ring the phone number and immediately have any vital information.

Careline bosses think the new scheme will particularly boost the safety of people with conditions like alzheimers, but say it has massive potential.

Control room supervisor Jo Stephens said: “If a wearer collapses and someone calls us, from the unique number we will be able to tell exactly who they are and how best to help them.

“We have people on duty 24-hours a day so it is like having your own emergency service at your beck and call.”

The scheme has been trialled over the last three months and Careline staff think it will become a big success.
A wristband costs £10, and there is a nominal fee of £5 each year to remain part of the scheme.

Anyone interested in joining the wristband scheme can call the service on 01255 222727.
